Teaching

IMG_1777.HEIC

We beleive that our students should enjoy playing their instruments, and we have our teaching style fitted accordingly. This is very important to help them continue to want to learn and study music in the future. The teaching at Straight Path Studio is calm and welcoming, offering constructive criticism to ensure our students grow without being discouraged. Oliver Lagerquist is our piano teacher; read about his experience here. The primary teaching approach follows the Royal Conservatory program, one of the most used and highest respected teaching methods for piano and other instruments. Students will learn scales to improve technical ability, sight reading and ear training, and songs from different eras. Elements of music theory will be incorporated into lessons to ensure students are getting an all-round music education. Oliver will take students from beginner status to more advanced. At request, a different method of piano study is available. Teaching in chording is offered, where students will focus on reading chord charts instead of music notes. This is beneficial if the goal is to learn to play in bands or in church. Contact us here if you are intersted in piano lessons.

COVID Precautions

Due to the coronavirus situation, we have altered our teaching to adhere to Public Health guidelines. For piano lessons, wearing masks is currently mandatory. The student and teacher are both at the piano as usual, however masks are required at all times. Contact us for more information regarding our safety protocols.
